Industrial growth is the urgent need for the young Indian economy, which is rearing to create employment on its way to growth. The nature of work in Indian industry is also under going a sea change, as are the attitudes and aspirations of the young industrial workforce. A unique opportunity waits to be tapped wherein urban design solutions can balance the diverse interest of many stakeholders; like the original landowners, the industrial workers, the industry owners and the Government agencies. Only when a just and equitable solution benefits all the above four constituents, can it be called truly sustainable at one level. On another level, the needs of industrial workers and their health and wellbeing can improve the productivity in the industry and lower the attrition rate in the sector. Each Industrial area has its own unique set of issues based on social and economic needs of the people. Similarly, there are dormant opportunities that are site specific and relate to the local social and cultural idiom which can be tapped in creative ways. So Metrovalley solutions are crafted after in-depth study and research on these issues.
We believe that if an economic solution can be put into place that continues to recognize the original landowners as a stakeholder in development, only then the reasons for lawlessness and unrest can be mitigated. Similarly if the planned infrastructure can provide lower cost solutions for the industry and their workers, the competitiveness of the industry gets enhanced. And if after achieving all the above with the state-of-the-art facilities, the government can generate revenue and resources to invest in development of infrastructure elsewhere, then only can such planning pass the test of Sarvguna Sampana.
Metrovalley's research in the diverse areas has led to the creation of a strategy document for the evolution of the model industrial estate in Manesar which is based on its diverse stakeholder's links to culture, which has the potential to enhance productivity and create economic profit through participatory community living. This strategy, which is based on our research, has been accepted by Haryana Government and was offered pro bono by Metrovalley to them
